The unit was purchased to be used both as a portable unit and as a main DVD unit for a bedroom. When hooked up to a TV there is no video button or built in switch that turns off the video or sound when hooked up externally to a TV. As a result you need to turn the volume down otherwise

I will replace this DVD player with either a better one from Panasonic...a company that still makes great products...or I ll buy a "Brand X" player that is cheap and just throw it away when it stops playing.

This is a lousy miss by Sony as the battery has been depleted on more than one occasion as my child has closed the top on a movie when it was over and the video screen remained on draining the battery. My portable Panasonic and Toshiba both had the ability to both automatically and manually switch the video/ sound off.
I have several long road trips coming up, and purchased this player to keep me and our daughter contented on the long drives. We looked at a bunch of different units, and finally settled on this one. We are not disappointed.
The picture quality is awesome and the sound is phenomenal for being so small and inexpensive. The battery has a good life, and its just a nice bonus that in addition to the AC adapter, it also comes with a car adapter.
Sony has always been my favourate brand in i love all of its products.And this portable DVD player is great.I loved it .I liked the size of this player.Its movable we can carry it easily wherever we want to.

I spent several hours researching a variety of models from low end to expensive. I purchased this for my 4 year old for long road trips. It has worked well - great battery life (over 5 hours), well built (durable) and fairly decent audio (loud if need). Since I bought this for a child, a more expensive machine didn t make sense but I wanted a quality unit that will work when required. I would recommend this to a friend.
This unit is a great balance of features vs. value! Long battery life, comes with car and wall plug, plays all formats, wide screen, parental lock and more. My only complaint is with the parental lock (a feature I considered a must.) It does ot lock out the eject button. And the eject button is front and center, the easiest button for my toddler to press.
I have no complaints about this portable DVD player. The image is crystal clear and the sound is just perfect. Even better, this product is able to take all the elements of use and abuse by my four-year old. It is easy for her to use and carry everywhere. I highly recommend this product!

I was a bit overwhelmed by such a large selection of portable dvd players out there, but I went with the brand i trusted most (Sony) and I dont regret my decision at all. This product is easy enough for my 4 yr old son to use, it is light weight, sleek and it has a 5 hr battery life! picture is great too. 7" screen is definitely enough in my opinion. not worth spending extra $50 or even hundreds for an 8" or a 9".
I LOVE this dvd player. I spent time researching several portable dvd players. I need one for a 5 hour plane ride. I looked for quality, battery life and price. It was between Sony and Toshiba. I didn t even want to bother with the lower end stuff. I chose the 7" sony. Perfect picture. It has 2 headphone ports... for the plane :) And the battery lasts up to 5 hours!!! Comes with car adapter and ac adapter. Plus other cords and a remote control. Worth the price. I am happy and satisfied. AAAA++++ :)

This has been great. I like that it came with the remote and car adapter included. It has great battery life, it lives up tot he 5 hour claim. There are some functions on the remote that aren t on the main unit, but that s normal and it wasn t a big deal. I am very pleased with it. I ve used it more than a dozen times since I got it in less than a month, and it s not had one glitch. It even plays worn DVDs that won t play in my nicer TV room unit.
This is a nice little DVD play; you can easily watch two movies on the battery power. The LCD is the old style not the shiny new ones that are out now. The picture is pretty nice with no glare from sunlight.
bought this for our kids (11 & 7) on long car trips. this was perfect to stop the fighting. The player itself is as easy as can be to use -although the mounting of the 2nd LCD is kind of a pain. Overall, I would recommend this

I took my DVD player with me on a long road trip and I was able to play movies for days by just simply recharging it when necessary. It will last 5 hours on a single charge. It s very light and easy to use. It also plays burned DVD s for those of you who have DVD backups. It s very simplistic and there s not much to say. It works and I like it a lot. I m not sure whether or not it will play any other region besides 1 since I don t have any of those discs to try. All I have is region 1.

some people had an issue with the sound - to me the sound is great. it can get really loud, which is surprising because really, how far could you sit from a screen that size? what s funny is that i bought it so that i could do my workout dvds (ok, dance dvds) anywhere in my house...and i always hear it and it is great audio-wise.
as for the resolution, i am pretty impressed. what i like the most is that you don t need the remote to control it - you can jump to the menu screen and use the arrows on the actual unit - or you could use the remote. at first i thought it was wierd that such a portable device would even have a remote, but now i like it. i use it while i m typing and doing movie reviews, so the remote helps so the screen isn t super close to me...and ps the remote comes with a battery! another reason why to like. would i buy it again? yes. and that s big considering i had looked at other models, from other brands. this one was definately the right choice.
I bought this DVD player for the backseat passengers to watch movies on weekend trips. Over a 3 1/2 month period, the Sony DVD player was used on about six or seven trips, for two or three hours each...less than 20 hours of total use. At that point, it began "freezing up" during the opening menu or after about the first five minutes of the movie. At that point, it was 100 days old, and the 90 day labor warranty had expired.
Sony has offered to replace it with a refurbished player for $33, after I pay $12 shipping and insurance to return it to Sony. So, for $45, I will get a refurbished replacement unit that comes with...you guessed it...a 90 day warranty.

When the Sony was working, the picture was nice, the sound through headphones was okay, and the sound through its tiny speakers was thin and annoying to hear. The Sony player is NOT better than the cheaper units sold by other companies...customers pay extra for the Sony "name"...a name that no longer means high quality products.
The battery life is about three hours, not the advertised five hours...enough to watch one long movie, or two short movies.

This is a great DVD player. got it for my 3 year old for x mas and it hasnt gave us any problems works great and has a hold button so he can push any of them and mess it up! very light weight and good battery!
